“This project is a
homerun for everyone in the town of Walpole. It is going
to be a first class complex for a first class town”.
Joe Morgan Former Manager of the Boston Red Sox
“The Town of Walpole
deserves a state of the art facility like this. Please
join me in supporting the Friends of the Walpole Community
Athletic Complex”.
Mike Milbury General Manager of the New York Islanders
and former Head Coach of the Boston Bruins
“I am very pleased to
hear of the proposal to renovate Turco Field and create a venue
that matches the quality of the Athletic Program. The field
being proposed is the same type and quality that most NFL
players prefer in that it most resembles natural turf regardless
of the weather conditions."
Todd Collins
NFL Quarterback for the Washington Redskins
This past
Spring the Kelley & Sullivan families
pitched in to raise money for the Friends of Walpole Community
Athletic Complex. Nathanial & Ethan Kelley and Casey & Jack
Sullivan came up with the idea to sell lemonade & hot cocoa at
the Walpole Stop & Shop.
The kids did a great job, and the sale was a big success.
Thanks to all who contributed. Events like these are so
important in letting the community know that funds for this
project are still urgently needed.
Special thanks to the managers at Stop & Shop, who once again
demonstrated their willingness to give back to the community.
This new Athletic complex will be a great asset to the town of
Walpole and the enthusiasm shown by its youngest residents is
encouraging to see.

ORIGINAL FUNDRAISING FLYER SENT TO WALPOLE RESIDENTS:
Take a
walk around the track and field at the high school. You’ll see
a track littered with cracks and potholes —the track team
hasn’t been able to host a home meet in five years because of
its condition. You’ll see a field with large bare patches,
worn thin and dusty from overuse.
It’s time for a change.
If you’re already “in,” you know this, and this letter is an
update. If you’re not yet a Friend of the Walpole Community
Athletic Complex (FWCAC), we hope you’ll consider becoming
one.
“In”volved Who are we? Briefly, FWCAC is a group of Walpole citizens,
all volunteers, who have joined together to undertake one of
the most ambitious volunteer efforts this town has ever seen:
raise private funds to renovate the track and field at Walpole
High School. The resulting facility will serve as a center for
community fitness and youth sports for years to come.
“In” Progress Today, we’re happy to report to you that:
· We’ve received the permits required to remove soil from the
site.
· We’ve received construction bids from five contractors and
are in the process of negotiating the bids and value
engineering the project specifications.
· We’re ready to start. Construction will begin in spring
2007, subject to achieving the fundraising goal.
“In”crease On the fundraising front, we need to increase private
support. We are $500,000 short of our $1.9 million goal.
· As a charitable, nonprofit organization, we can’t begin
construction until all the money is in hand.
· This is an all-or-nothing proposal: we’re committed to doing
the entire project – field, track and lights – rather than
taking it piecemeal. This approach will save money in the long
run and allow the most efficient use of every dollar raised.
“In”vestment in Education The new track and field will be an invaluable addition to
the high school:
· Extra curricular sports like track, football, field hockey,
soccer and lacrosse will all benefit from this state-of-art
facility.
· Over 1,100 high school students will be able to use the
track and field for physical education.
“In”vestment in youth The new facility will be a boon to youth sports:
· Youth lacrosse, soccer and football will all be able to use
it.
· When the Community Athletic Complex opens, it will be like
adding five fields to the town: The current football field can
only be used 20 hours a week—quickly eaten up by football
practice and a weekly game. The new field will be able to be
used 12 hours a day!
“In”vestment in community The new facility will be a community resource:
· Senior citizens—indeed, all townspeople— can use the track
to exercise. It will be a safe, flat surface that’s free from
street traffic.
· The new Community Athletic Complex will last 10 to 12 years,
saving precious tax dollars because it won’t have to be
seeded, stripped, fertilized and mowed. The town can then
focus more dollars on maintaining existing fields.
“In” gratitude to Walpole Think of the Community Athletic Complex as a gift to the
Town of Walpole from citizens of all ages.
